What you should know

Sydney comes alive on the weekend, partly because of Sydney’s great weekend markets! Most Sydney markets have a particular focus, be it food, collectibles, retro items etc, but some offer a good mix of stalls.

Here are our picks for Sydney’s best weekend markets. If you haven’t been to all of them, have you really experienced life in Sydney?

Bondi Farmers Markets

It’s hard to go past Bondi Farmers Markets when you’re talking about Sydney’s best weekend markets – it’s an institution! Every Saturday, dozens of stallholders take over Bondi Beach Public school, offering organic produce, freshly baked bread, meats, flowers and more! The school is on Campbell parade, right by the beach – so make time for a swim if you’re visiting in summer.

If you’re worried about parking in Bondi, use Share with Oscar to book a spot before you leave home.

Protip: While you’re in town, visit one of these Bondi Beach cafes for a cuppa.

– Time: Saturdays 9am-1pm

Bondi Markets

If you’re more into fashion than fennel, Bondi Markets is for you. Organised by the same crew as Bondi Farmers Markets, Bondi Markets sets up shop every Sunday morning. You’ll find local designer clothing, handmade and imported jewellery, retro furniture, records, and more.

Protip: Both Bondi Markets are all weather, but not under cover – so bring an umbrella if it’s raining!

– Time: Sundays 10am-4pm

– Location: Bondi Beach Public School

Glebe Markets

Glebe markets are a staple of the Sydney markets scene, and a great place to take visitors from out of town. A mix of makers, dealers of retro and vintage wares, and a lot of second hand clothing, you’re sure to walk out with (or wearing) something great.

Protip: As well as great stalls, Glebe Markets also hosts local musicians from noon until 3pm. Check their website for listings.

Carriageworks Farmers Market

If you’re after fresh produce in the inner west, Carriageworks Farmers Market has you covered this weekend. The Carriageworks warehouse is converted to a foodie’s dream every Saturday, with everything from fresh produce, wine, and bread, to organic nuts, honey, and Blue Mountains truffles! For those too lazy to cook, there’s lots to eat on the day too.

Protip: Don’t leave without trying the steamed buns from Billy Kwong, a stall run by celebrity chef Kylie Kwong. They worth the wait!

Marrickville Markets (Addison Road)

Another inner west staple, Marrickville Markets offer some truly mouth watering food from local vendors, plenty of fresh produce, and other local wares. It’s held at the Addison Road Community Centre, so be sure to pay a visit to Reverse Garbage and The Bower, or catch a matinee at The Depot Theatre while you’re there.

Protip: If you have a dog, they’re welcome at Marrickville Markets, unlike many of the markets held in schools. Afterwards, head down to Enmore Park, which has an off-leash zone, or to Vic on the Park, a very dog friendly pub.

– Time: Sunday 9am-3pm

– Location: Addison Road Community Centre

Manly Marketplace

A real all-rounder market, Manly Marketplace is just a 100 metre stroll from one of Australia’s best beaches. Located on Sydney Road, it’s right in the heart of the action – it’s the perfect way to see the area.

Protip: Parking in Manly is tough. If you can’t take the ferry, make sure you book a spot with Share with Oscar before you leave.

– Time: Saturdays and Sundays 9am-5pm (closes 4:30pm in the winter months)

Kings Cross Market

Another stalwart of the Sydney market scene is the Kings Cross organic food market. The neighbourhood has a great vibe on a weekend morning, and is a great place to get your grocery shopping done at the same time.

Protip: If you don’t get to Kings Cross often, make time to wander. Macleay Street alone has lots of unique sellers of clothes, food, and books that you’ll love.

Rozelle Collectors Markets

If you love the thrill of the hunt, Rozelle Collectors Markets is the place to be this weekend. It’s a treasure trove of vintage dealers, with clothes, furniture, jewellery, collectibles, and much more.

Protip: Get there early. These markets are a lot like a giant garage sale every weekend, and the best stuff moves fast!

– Time: Saturdays and Sunday 9am-4pm

– Location: Rozelle Public School

Paddy’s Markets (Haymarket)

Unlike the other markets on this list, Paddy’s is a permanent fixure of Sydney’s China town district, open five days a week. It’s a combination of a fresh food market, as well as a Hong Kong-style street market (think bags, clothing, and electronics…not all licensed…).

It’s not far from Central station, but if you’re driving, book a spot on Share with Oscar first, as parking in Sydney City is tough.

Protip: If have kids and are only there for produce, enter from the corner of Quay Street and Ultimo Road to avoid the street market.

– Time: Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-6pm

– Location: Haymarket

The Westies Markets

Not all of Sydney’s markets are near the coast! While The Westies Markets are only a quarterly affair, they’re worth the wait. With local produce, handmade pieces, and unique fashion items and homewares, it packs a punch.

Protip: Take note of the dates these markets are on, then put them in your calendar, with a reminder a week ahead of time. That way you won’t miss them!

– Website: The Westies Markets

– Time: Approximately quarterly – check the website for dates.

– Location: Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School
